Take some time for yourself.
Every one of those sentences was written by somebody with a second adult in the house.
Not deliberately. Nobody sat down and decided to exclude you. It is just that the whole architecture of that advice rests on a handover, and there is no handover here, and there has not been one in four years.
You cannot take ten minutes. There is nowhere for the children to be during the ten minutes. That is not an attitude problem, it is a fact about the number of adults in this home.
So the advice arrives, and it is kind, and it lands as one more thing you are apparently failing to do, and it has been landing that way for a long time.

I am not able to bear all this people alone
There is a sentence Moses says out loud, in front of God, and it is one of the least polished things in the Bible.
I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. (Numbers 11:14, King James Version)
I am not able to bear all this people alone.
Look at what that is. It is not a prayer request. It is not a carefully worded submission. It is a man saying flatly that he cannot do the thing, using the word alone, and the word too heavy.
You are not the first person to say that sentence to God, and it was never treated as faithlessness when somebody did. Numbers 11:14 records the complaint in the man's own words without softening it, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes that read as permission rather than as a bad example.
And notice what God does about it. He does not tell Moses he is able really. He does not correct the assessment. He divides the load, immediately, by giving seventy others a share of it.
You have a God who accepted the assessment rather than arguing with it, and it was never in doubt that the load was too heavy. The written word takes the complaint at face value and answers it with actual help, and the Spirit of God is what stops a woman apologizing for an accurate description of her own house.
What is available when nothing is available
Now let me do something practical, because the honest naming is only half of it.
There is no ten minutes alone. Accept that as the starting condition rather than the problem to be solved.
What there is, and this is genuinely different, is ten minutes where nobody needs anything from you. Those are not the same thing and the second one is available almost every day.
Open the front door and sit down on the step with them.
You are able to be off duty without being alone, and it has never once required a second adult to have stopped for ten minutes. Numbers 11 answers a too heavy load with shared weight rather than with solitude, which is exactly why the Spirit of God offers a step rather than an hour.
Because on a step, nobody is asking you anything. Children on a sidewalk supervise themselves at a level a kitchen never allows. You are present, you are responsible, and you are not being required to produce anything, and that third one is the part that has been missing for four years.
The load is genuinely unshared, and staying in is not a smaller answer than going out on the days there is nothing.
And on the days when even that is too much
Now the part this row exists for.
Some days the step will not be available either. Not because of the children. Because of you, and because four years is a long time, and because there is a bottom to what a person has.
On those days, stay in, and let it stand clean.
You are not condemned on those days, and it was never a scoreboard that anybody was keeping on you. The passage lets a man say he cannot bear it without one word of rebuke attached, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes a day indoors as clean as a day on a step.
I want to say why this has to be in the article. A site that tells a woman with no second adult to get outside, and cannot also say that not going is fine, has handed her one more thing to be behind on. And you do not need another one of those.
You have permission for the step and permission for the chair, and neither one has ever been the disappointing version of the other. Numbers 11:14 states the impossibility plainly and gets help rather than correction, and the Spirit of God is the one who is present in a house on the day nobody goes anywhere.
So here is what I believe is going out over a woman with nobody to hand anybody to.
You are not failing to rest, and you were never given advice that was written for a household like yours. I am not promising you a second adult. Numbers 11:14 has a man say I am not able to bear all this people alone and get help rather than a correction, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my saying so who takes an apology off an accurate description.
And this, which is the word I came with:
You have ten minutes on a step available today, and being off duty has never once required being alone. The written word takes a flat impossibility at face value, and the Spirit of God is the one who is on a doorstep with a woman who nobody is asking anything of.
The step, or the chair. Both clean.
Declare this over yourself
- Advice about taking time for myself, you were written for a house with a handover in it and this house has none. Numbers 11:14 says I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me, so by the Holy Spirit I sit on my own step for ten minutes in the name of Jesus.
- Feeling that I am failing at rest, you were never true and you were never mine to carry. The written word takes a flat impossibility at face value and answers it with help rather than correction, and by the Holy Spirit I am done apologizing for an accurate account of my own home.
- Father, You did not tell that man he was able really. Your word in Numbers 11 divided the load instead of arguing with the man carrying it, so by Your Spirit I take the step today, and I take the chair on the days there is nothing.
